I give up on fixing everything. I bought a new dehumidifier for the basement.

In the instructions: "Do not operate with wet hands or in a damp environment."

I feel like I'm losing my mind.

You just gave me a flashback to someone saying, "I want to buy a humidifier and a dehumidifier, and lock them in a room and let them fight it out."

I have no idea who it was or why they want to do it.

teeheehee. I feel kind of like that's the situation already - there is a hot water valve leaking down there, which drips into a bucket. I'm sure that the water in the bucket evaporates into the air. It all seems like a giant exercise in futility :)
