Jun. 20th, 2007 07:09 pmThe new fan motor for the central A/C arrived in the post today. There has been something wrong with the old one (bad bearings?) since I moved in. It could be heard quite literally halfway down the block, so I really hesitated to use it under most circumstances. Now, it whispers sweet nothings in my ear!
I electrocuted myself installing it. I'm usually more careful than that. But now I can cancel that ECT that I had scheduled, so the motor basically paid for itself.
I tried to find a replacement motor a few summers ago, but I couldn't find it. Now I found that it was obsoleted, but the manufacturer desginated a suitable replacement (same hp, same RPM, suitably similar dimensions and mount points, etc.) - and it draws 120mA less!
So - yay! Now the house has two new appliances that it has never had before (garbage disposal, dishwasher), and a fixed one that has been broken for a long time. Hopefully now it will cut me some slack.
