Whew! I'm on a roll!

Gonzales could get say in states' executions

Am I misreading this, or does it allow state attorneys general to circumvent federal courts by going to AG Gonzales (hello???) to fast-track executions?

What is going on here????

jesus, it's been a week for wondering if it will get significantly worse before it gets any better.

it doesn't help that I just happened to hear a selective service PSA on CMU's radio station today and nearly had a meltdown thinking of all the draft-eligible men in my life.

Hmm, this could go either way. It could get people off and it could get people executed without having to wait for the slow court process to decide who got an adequate defense. I don't like the notion of an expedited process in life or death decisions.

Off with your head!

The only good reason I can see for speeding up an execution is that it must be agonizing to sit in jail for years knowing that the electric chair (or whatever) is waiting for you.

The other reasons that people usually list are bullshit imho, because like you say, it's life or death. It doesn't make sense to execute somebody if there's even a teeeeeeeny chance that they are innocent. It has been proven that there have been cases where innocent people have been executed, which to me says that if anything we should be more careful, not more quick.
