GIVING THANKS

What a lovely day!
I got paged at 1:30am today. I'm not even on call. But I guess it's ok. I took care of it insofar as possible, but couldn't close the ticket - a certain medication wasn't mapped correctly in the pharmacy app, and I have no control over that. I have a feeling that my team lead is gonna be a harpy about my "inadequate response" to the situation, but w/e. Like I said, it's out of my control. And if I'm on call 24/7, I need to be paid more. A lot more.
Mom drove here and spent the night last night. She woke me up at about 10:30, which should have been fine, but I still wanted to sleep. w/e. My brother showed up shortly thereafter, and we started to make our meal.
I am quite enamored of Mom's new boyfriend. He made a pumpkin cheesecake for us, and decorated it! What a sweetie! He's the very first nice boyfriend that she's had. My father, who is a total shithead, was her first boyfriend ever. They got married when she was 16. Her second boyfriend was also her second husband. He was not only a shithead, but a textbook sociopath. Even though I haven't seen him in over ten years, about half of my dreams are nightmares revolving around him. He is a major blemish on my life, and we'll speak of him no further. Her third boyfriend basically used her as a beard - he's a total closet case that liked her to appear with him at social functions, but that's about it. Which is a substantial underutilization of her. And now, finally, she has a good boyfriend.
If debate were football, there would have been paparazzi at every window. My brother is a national debate celebrity. He and his partner placed third at nationals this year - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zT8t4liEHwU - which is really cool. MSU placed first, Wayne State placed third - two public schools from Michigan in the top three!!! Against Harvard, Northwestern, etc. And 3 of those 4 debaters went to Michigan public schools before college! Ugh, he humbles me.
Anyway, I generally don't like watching him debate. #1, they talk so fast! I srsly don't catch most of what they're saying. #2 - the way that they breathe when they're reading their cards TOTALLY creeps me out. Watch the video, you'll see.
Also, he got scabies at some hotel when he was at some debate tournament in KY. Sweet Jesus, I hope I don't get it from him. I had scabies for six fucking months a few years ago, and I just about had a nervous breakdown. These little ticks, burrowing into your skin, laying eggs, shitting, dying. It's not a pleasant thing to have going on in your body.
Anyway, they're both gone now, which is fine. I like having them around, but they overwhelm me at times.
Also, here's what we had to eat (they're both vegetarians, so bleh) -
Quorn - it was sort of dry, not sure if there's a way to remedy that.
Cranberries from scratch - yum!
Mashed potatoes - my brother made these, he has some sort of magic going on there, delicious!!!
- with an incredible mushroom gravy! OMG, this was better than "real" gravy, and much more healthy!
Stuffing
Asparagus with some sort of fancy cheese grated on it
And that's it.

Date: 2006-11-24 01:18 pm (UTC)Not that I have much room to talk, but he gives Value World clothing a bad name. At least teach him the wonders of layered looks.
Though, I would hate doing the speech portion of debate,. Yay for being speedy and all, but if the audience can't understand you then you suck ass. The Q&A portion, which is slower, would be my forte.
