And, I really think it says something that Pelosi is trying to make nice with Bush. Did Gingrich try to build bridges with Clinton? I don't remember, but I kinda doubt it.

Didn't he also have 67 senators? I thought there were enough in there for a veto override, non?

You are correct sir. Also, it was (is) not in his demeanor to humble himself to speak coordially with an adversary.

Exactly. So, nature notwithstanding, there was no need to make nice with the President. I probably wouldn't have either.

however...

W did invite her to stop by... and the Democrats need to show bipartisanship.

I mean it's not like they got voted in based on clear policy statements.

But then he impeached him. Maybe we'll stay on that path???

What was truly weird about their relationship was the fact that they did work well together, even after the House passed the impeachment articles against Clinton. I'm not even sure they disliked each other personally. It was all very surreal. Dog and cats living together, mass hysteria.

I'm sure that was entirely due to Clinton's good nature :-D

Oh, no doubt. In fact, I think they're still friends today. Scwewy, ain't it?

Well, I know I certainly wouldn't be friends with Newt, and he's never even tried to impeach me. So yah, scwewy.

Well, sometimes, but there *was* that whole "shutting down the government over a budget dispute" thing...

(As I remember, though, Clinton came out of that episode riding pretty high - I don't think Bush has nearly the class necessary to survive something like that.)

Clinton came out of that one smelling like a rose, because the whole affair was seen as a crabby Republican temper tantrum. It was also one of the reasons why the Republicans didn't do as well as they'd predicted in the '98 midterms. All Clinton really had to do was sit back, point at them, and go, "See? See how they are when they don't get their way?"
